Magrahat Paschim (constituency no. 142) is a general-category constituency in South 24 Parganas district, falling under the Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituency. It is situated adjacent to Magrahat Purba and shares similar deltaic, rural characteristics.
The constituency has a mixed religious composition, with both Hindu and Muslim communities, which gives it a distinct social texture compared to some neighbouring seats. Agriculture dominates the local economy.
In 2021, TMC's Giasuddin Molla won the seat by a large margin of nearly 47,000 votes over the BJP. In 2016, the TMC also held Magrahat Paschim. The seat has been consistently with the TMC since 2011, having previously been a CPI(M) bastion.
The 2026 election sees the TMC nominate Shamin Ahmed, a new face replacing the incumbent Giasuddin Molla. BJP's Gour Sundar Ghosh and Congress's Abdul Majid Halder represent the other main parties. The constituency's demographics, particularly its Muslim voter concentration, tend to favour the TMC. The change in candidate is the principal uncertainty for the ruling party's prospects, and the new TMC candidate will need to quickly establish grassroots presence to protect the dominant margin.
