Congress candidate Chellakumar A finished third with 59,597 votes.The Krishnagiri constituency witnessed a high-stakes rematch in the 2026 Assembly elections, as the AIADMK re-nominated the incumbent K. Ashok Kumar, seeking to consolidate his narrow 2021 victory. He faced a formidable challenge from the INC, which fielded Dr. A. Chellakumar as part of the DMK-led alliance. The race was further diversified by Mukundhan P of the TVK and Suganthi Parthiban of the NTK, both of whom gained traction by focusing on industrial labor rights and mango farmers' welfare.

The 2021 election was one of the tightest in the state, with K. Ashok Kumar (AIADMK) winning by just 794 votes after polling 96,050 votes (45.38% share) against T. Senguttuvan (DMK), who received 95,256 votes. In 2016, the seat was won by T. Senguttuvan (DMK) with 87,637 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s V. Govindaraj by 4,891 votes.The voter turnout this year reached 84.79%, a historic high for the segment compared to the 79.52% recorded in 2021.
Krishnagiri (Constituency No. 53), the administrative heart of the district, is the "Mango Capital of India" and a vital trade hub on the Chennai-Bangalore highway. The region is defined by its massive fruit processing industries and the Krishnagiri Reservoir (KRP Dam). With a diverse electorate of traders, orchard owners, and industrial workers, the seat is a crucial indicator for urban infrastructure and agro-industrial policy in northern Tamil Nadu.The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
