Khanakul (constituency no. 202) is the southernmost constituency of Hooghly district, forming part of the Arambag Lok Sabha constituency. The area is largely rural, covering Khanakul I and Khanakul II community development blocks.
It borders the Paschim Medinipur district and, given its geographic position, shares some socio-political characteristics with Junglemahal-adjacent areas. Agriculture, particularly paddy and potato farming, is the mainstay of the local economy.
In 2021, BJP's Susanta Ghosh won the Khanakul seat, making it another BJP gain in Hooghly district. In 2016, the TMC had held the constituency. The TMC now puts forward Palash Roy, a new face, to take on the sitting BJP MLA in 2026. Congress has countered with Pradip Kumar Kar. Susanta Ghosh, as the incumbent, has the advantage of his track record in office. The TMC's challenge is to consolidate its rural voter base in a constituency where the BJP mounted a successful campaign in 2021. Khanakul is one of several Hooghly seats the TMC is targeting to recapture from the BJP in the 2026 election cycle.
