Jadavpur is an urban constituency in South 24 Parganas, forming part of the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency. It encompasses some of Kolkata's most prominent residential and educational areas, including the neighbourhood surrounding Jadavpur University — one of India's most prestigious technical institutions.
The seat has a socially diverse, largely middle-class electorate.
In 2021, TMC's Sujit Bose won the Jadavpur assembly seat as part of the party's sweeping victory across Kolkata, comfortably defeating his BJP rival. TMC polled strongly across the urban wards in the constituency.
In 2016, the seat was similarly won by TMC, underscoring the party's dominance in this part of Kolkata. The Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat — which includes this assembly segment — has been a celebrity-contested seat, with actress and TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty and later Sayani Ghosh representing it in Parliament.
