Cheyyur election results 2026: AIADMK’s Mukkur N. Subramanian wins Cheyyar by 21,081 votes, defeats TVK and DMK

In Cheyyar, Mukkur N. Subramanian of AIADMK secured a clear victory, polling 86,680 votes. He defeated TVK’s Dusi K. Mohan by a margin of 21,081 votes. DMK’s Jothi O finished third with 59,894 votes, as the constituency delivered a decisive mandate in favour of AIADMK.The Cheyyur constituency witnessed a high-stakes battle with the DMK-led alliance fielding the prominent VCK leader Sinthanai Selvan, who replaced the incumbent M Babu. He faced E Rajasekar of the AIADMK, who campaigned aggressively on improving rural infrastructure. The entry of K Mohanraja, representing the TVK, and Swathi Lakshmi of the NTK further electrified the race, as they vied for the significant youth and first-time voter segments in this SC reserved seat. The 2021 election saw M Babu (VCK) secure a hard-fought victory with 82,750 votes (46.2% vote share), defeating S Kanitha (AIADMK), who polled 78,708 votes. The victory margin was a close 4,042 votes. In the 2016 election, the seat was won by R T Arasu (DMK), who polled 63,446 votes, narrowly defeating the AIADMK’s A Munusamy by a razor-thin margin of just 304 votes. The voter turnout this year was 90.84%, which is a significant increase from the 78.27% recorded in the 2021 elections. Cheyyur (Constituency No. 34), located in the Chengalpattu district along the East Coast Road (ECR), is a unique coastal and agricultural segment reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Castes. Landmarks like the scenic Mudaliarkuppam Boat House, the ancient Kandaswamy Temple, and the proposed Cheyyur Ultra Mega Power Project site define its identity. A socially diverse electorate, primarily consisting of traditional salt-pan workers, fishing communities, and farmers, makes it a critical seat for monitoring rural welfare and coastal development policies in the state. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties.
