Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni has delivered a close result, with
DMK’s
Udhayanidhi Stalin retaining the seat by a reduced margin. With counting complete (17/17 rounds), Udhayanidhi secured 62,992 votes, defeating Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s D Selvam, who polled 55,852 votes.
AIADMK’s Aadirajaram finished third with 16,507 votes.
The 2021 election marked the electoral debut of Udhayanidhi Stalin (DMK), who won in a massive landslide with 93,285 votes (67.9% vote share), defeating Kassali A V A (PMK), who contested as a AIADMK alliance and polled 23,930 votes. The victory margin was a staggering 69,355 votes, one of the highest in the state. In the 2016 election, the seat was won by the late J Anbazhagan (DMK), a powerful party organiser who polled 67,982 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s A Noorjahan by 14,164 votes.
The voter turnout this year was 84.28%, which is a major jump in comparison to 57.82% of 2021 elections.
Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni (Constituency No. 19), located in Central Chennai, is a historic, high-density seat known for its cultural, religious, and political significance. Landmarks like the Parthasarathy Temple, M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, and Marina Beach define its identity. A socially and religiously diverse electorate, comprising traders, students, workers, and long-settled communities, makes it a politically dynamic seat shaped by governance, welfare, and community balance.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure.
