Live updates: Former President Pranab Mukherjee laid to rest with full military honours

US State Department on Monday condoled the death of former President Pranab Mukherjee, saying that he will be forever remembered in the annals of Indian history."Our heartfelt condolences on the passing of former President Pranab Mukherjee. We stand with the people of India as they grieve the loss of a great leader who will be forever remembered in the annals of Indian history," US State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) tweeted.

Anyone who interacted with Pranab Mukherjee — Pranabda to so many of us — came back with a lasting impression about this remarkable man. In public life and in politics, my earliest interactions, after those with Madhavrao Scindia, were with Pranabda. The former took me to meet the latter. I came back marvelling at this encyclopaedic intellect blessed with an elephantine memory.

In his condolence message, the TDP chief said that country has lost a veteran statesman and a multi-faceted personality in Pranab Mukherjee's death. "In a political career spanning six decades, Pranab Mukherjee went on to be known as a troubleshooter and kept a distance from controversies," he said adding that the demise of Mukherjee has left a deep vacuum in the country. "Dada's death has left a deep vacuum in the country. Nobody can forget the long-standing services rendered by Pranab Mukherjee as a Union Minister. His modesty, commitment and honesty would be inspirational for future generations. He would forever be remembered as a great parliamentarian," he said.

Indian Army on Monday paid tributes to former President Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away earlier in the day."General MM Naravane #COAS & all ranks of #IndianArmy pay heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, our erstwhile Supreme Commander," Indian Army said in a tweet."Indian Air Force pays tribute & conveys heartfelt condolences at passing away of former President of India & Bharat Ratna Shri #PranabMukherjee. Our prayers are with the family at this time of grief," said Indian Air Force in a tweet.

"I am saddened by the tragic death of former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today. On behalf of the Nepali people, the Government of Nepal and myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of India, the Government of India and the bereaved families. Since his death, Nepal has lost a good friend," President Bhandari tweeted.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and Chief Minister and senior Congress leader V Narayanasamy on Monday expressed grief over the demise of former president Pranab Mukherjee, hailing him as one known for his rich wisdom and political acumen and an able administrator.Bedi, in her condolence message, said Mukherjee was a politician of high credibility with few parallels.
