NEW DELHI: In Bolpur, Despite the BJP’s broader dominance in the state, this seat was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Chandranath Sinha securing 1,14,915 votes to defeat BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh by a margin of 13,188 votes. Sinha maintained a consistent lead during counting, holding off a strong challenge from the BJP. Ghosh polled 1,01,727 votes but ultimately finished second in the closely watched contest.
Bolpur is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Bolpur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Chandra Nath Sinha of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Bolpur. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 50.58% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dr Anirban Ganguly, who received 40.89% of the votes.
Trinamool retained Sinha as its candidate for the recently held assembly polls, while the BJP fielded Dilip Kumar Ghosh.
Chandra Nath Sinha has held the constituency for multiple terms. He also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
The election history shows that Bolpur has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
