NEW DELHI: In Barbani, BJP’s Arijit Roy secured a clear win, polling 91,777 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Bidhan Upadhyay by a margin of 11,722 votes. Roy held his advantage through the counting process, ensuring a comfortable finish. Upadhyay garnered 80,055 votes but fell short, ending up in second place.
Barbani is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Bidhan Upadhyay of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Barbani. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 52.27% of the total votes polled.
He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Arijit Roy, who received 38.4% of the votes.
Both again faced off in the recently held assembly polls.
Upadhyay has held the constituency for multiple terms. He also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
The election history shows that Barbani has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
