NEW DELHI: In Assam's Baksa (ST), BPF's Maneswar Brahma won the assembly elections seat of 2026 against Rakesh Brahma of United People Front (Liberal) with a margin of 49,050 votes, Congress' Jagadish Madahi at the third positionVoting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest seen in recent years.Importantly, the strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement from voters across the state.Baksa (ST) assembly Constituency is a newly created Assembly constituency in Assam’s Baksa district, formed during the 2023 delimitation exercise.The seat falls within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and is reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.

It is one of the nine Assembly segments under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.The formation of Baksa (ST) followed a major reorganisation of constituencies in the district. Earlier, Baksa had three Assembly seats, Tamulpur, Barama and Chapaguri, all of which were abolished and replaced by the new Baksa (ST) and Manas constituencies.Geographically, the constituency shares an international border with Bhutan to the north and is located close to the renowned Manas National Park, adding to its strategic and ecological significance.
