NEW DELHI: In Asansol Uttar, BJP’s Krishnendu Mukherjee won the seat with 1,04,516 votes, defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Moloy Ghatak by a margin of 11,615 votes. Ghatak secured 92,901 votes in the contest.
Asansol Uttar is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Moloy Ghatak of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Asansol Uttar. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 52.33% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the
Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Krishnendu Mukherjee, who received 41.38% of the votes.
Ghatak has held the seat for multiple terms. He also won the constituency in the 2016 and 2011 Assembly elections as an AITC candidate. Both Ghatak and Mukherjee were fielded by their respective parties in the recent assembly polls.
The election history shows that Asansol Uttar has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive terms, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
