Asansol Dakshin constituency assembly election results 2026: BJP’s Agnimitra Paul wins over Trinamool Congress candidate Tapas Banerjee

NEW DELHI: IN Asansol Dakshin, BJP’s Agnimitra Paul secured a decisive victory, polling 1,19,582 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Tapas Banerjee by a margin of 40,839 votes. Banerjee garnered 78,743 votes in the contest, finishing a distant second.Asansol Dakshin is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.At present, Agnimitra Paul of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the sitting MLA from Asansol Dakshin. She won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 45.13% of the total votes polled. She was followed by Saayoni Ghosh of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), who received 42.83% of the votes.For the recent assembly elections, the BJP again fielded Paul. Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, gave ticket to Tapas Banerjee.Banerjee won the seat in both the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections.
