LUCKNOW: BJP leader and UP law minister Brajesh Pathak has registered a convincing win from Lucknow Cantonment constituency.Pitted against Samajwadi Party candidate Surendra Singh Gandhi alias Raju Gandhi, Pathak won by around 40,000 votes. The BJP has succeeded in retaining the Cantonment seat for the second time in a row. In 2017, BJP's Reeta Bahuguna Joshi had defeated SP candidate Aparna Yadav from here.Pathak, who had successfully contested from Lucknow Central assembly constituency in the last elections, was fielded from Cantonment this time. Soon after Pathak's victory, his supporters started thronging his residence. They applied saffron 'gulaal' on one another and raised slogans in his support. Pathak, too, accorded a warm welcome to all his supporters and party workers, thanking each of them to ensure his victory at the hustings."It's a victory of government schemes, victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and victory of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath," said Pathak soon after the announcement of his poll result. He said that it was a people's victory and a victory of good law and order. People have voted for development works carried out by the BJP government in the state.
I thank everyone who voted for the BJP, he added.Meanwhile, talking to TOI, Raju Gandhi said, "I have given a good fight. The SP has never polled 68,000 votes here. Mine is the highest vote count so far."Cantonment constituency includes localities like Talkatora Road, Rajendranagar, Naka Hindola, GRP Colony, Blunt Square, Mavaiyya, Charbagh, Lalkuan, Udaiganj, Vidhan Sabha Marg, Sadar, Dilkusha, Alambagh, RDSO Colony, Vijaynagar, Krishnanagar and Shringarnagar.In all, 11 candidates were in the fray in this constituency. While 16 contestants had been fielded from this seat In 2017, in 2012 polls, their number was 25. The gender ratio in Lucknow Cantonment seat in 2019 was 890 females against every 1,000 male voters. In 2017 assembly polls, there were 3,61,298 eligible electors, of whom 2,00,705 were males,1,67,586 females and 20 belonged to the third gender.
