Chennai: Chennai district ups its ranking from 34 in 2025 to 29 in 2026. Pass percentage wise, the district scored 92.34 -- a jump from 90.73 last year. Assessing the performance of govt schools alone, the district secured 86.25% pass -- a jump from 82.84 in 2025. The rankings have marginally also improved from 37 in 2024 to 33 in 2026.
A total of 62,757 students took the test from the district -- of whom 31,791 were girls and 30,966 were boys. About 94.54% of the girls passed the exam, outshining boys (90.08%).
A total of 797 schools -- including private, corporation, adi dravidar and schools run by the education department -- took the test in the district. Of the lot, 207 secured a pass percent of 100. Twenty-nine of them were govt schools.
As for the performance of govt schools, 15840 students from 160 such schools took the test. Girls secured a pass percentage of 89.74 and boys, 82%
