Another petition challenging Ram temple construction at Akiveedu dismissed
Vijayawada: The high court on Tuesday dismissed yet another petition filed challenging the construction of Sri Ram temple at Pedapadu, in Akiveedu mandal of West Godavari district. The court observed that revenue records suggest that there exists a Ram temple at the disputed site for the last 80 years and the temple construction is being done with all requisite permissions. One Vanga Jyothsna, along with two others, moved the high court challenging the permissions given by the district collector for construction of the temple at the site in question. Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, Jada Sravan Kumar said the said temple is being constructed on govt land and granting permissions for such constructions is illegal and violative of Supreme Court judgments. Countering the claims, the counsel for the temple committee submitted that the said land was categorised as temple land in revenue records, and reconstruction of the temple was being done with all permissions.Considering the submissions on both sides, Justice Gannamaneni Ramakrishna Prasad said the revenue records clearly state that the land in question was govt poramboke and categorised as temple land. The encumbrance certificate of the adjacent land also indicates that the land in question belonged to the temple, the court noted, while adding that the collector gave a no objection certificate after examining the reports given by the tahsildar and RDO, and after checking the revenue records.
Dismissing the petition, Justice Prasad said the records clearly show that the land in question belonged to the temple and when construction is taking place with all necessary permissions, there is no need for the high court to interfere in the matter.
