Trichy: Residents of Thiruverumbur have sought the TVK govt to expedite land acquisition process to construct service roads for the Trichy-Thanjavur national highway (NH).
Addressing reporters on Monday, the residents stated that previous elected representatives failed to fulfil their promises to residents, who were reeling under frequent accidents on the highway. Blaming the previous DMK govt for delaying and collapsing the project by proposing an expensive elevated corridor as an alternative, residents said that TVK's Thiruverumbur MLA Navalpattu Viji should fulfil his promise to residents, and complete the service road project within his term. They added that the state govt must expedite the pending infrastructure crucial for lakhs of residents residing in more than 10 wards of the city.
"Between Thiruverumbur RoB and Palpannai junction, we need service roads continuously on both sides of the highway. Safe zones for pedestrians and two-wheelers to cross the Trichy-Thanjavur NH and adequate space to halt city buses must be ensured while laying service roads," S Sakthivel, chief organiser, Federation for Retrieval of Trichy Palpannai-Thuvakudi Service Road, said.
