Trichy: Around 23.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments and a laptop were stolen from a locked car parked near Palpannai in Trichy on Thursday night. Police registered a case on Friday.
Police said G Suresh Babu, 45, an IT professional from Madurai, was travelling to his native place in Villupuram to attend a family event. On Thursday night, Suresh Babu stopped the vehicle at a private supermarket near Palpannai on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway around 8.30pm to buy some household items. When he returned around 10pm, he discovered that gold ornaments and a laptop worth Rs 4.8 lakh had been stolen from the locked car.
Following Babu's complaint, the Gandhi Market police registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for theft. They are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects.
