UP women panel seeks ban on Nora Fatehi; notices sent to CBFC, lyricist

AGRA: Uttar Pradesh state women's commission chairperson Babita Chauhan launched a sharp attack on Canadian actor-dancer Nora Fatehi over her latest song 'Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke', saying its content "crosses all limits of decency." Chauhan called for "an immediate ban on Fatehi in India", and said the actor "should be sent back to where she came from".Speaking at an event at the Vikas Bhawan auditorium in Aligarh on Friday, Chauhan questioned how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved the song, asserting that it is "not fit for family viewing". She said notices have been issued to the authorities concerned seeking action against both the board and the lyricist involved. Chauhan addressed broader issues related to women's welfare, including domestic violence and suppression of Muslim women's voices. She added the commission is developing a dedicated mobile application to support Muslim women facing domestic difficulties.National commission for women (NCW) recently summoned Fatehi, actor Sanjay Dutt, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K Narayana and director Kiran Kumar in connection with the controversy surrounding the song from the upcoming Kannada film 'KD: The Devil'. They have been asked to appear on March 24 with relevant documents.NCW summons follow allegations that the song's lyrics and choreography appear "sexually suggestive, objectionable and potentially in violation of BNS, IT Act and Pocso Act".
