Fire damages items worth lakhs at pillow factory

Trichy: A major fire broke out at a pillow manufacturing unit near Karur on Monday, damaging finished products and goods worth several lakhs. Police suspect an electrical snag as the cause of the fire.The unit near Gandhigramam was housed in a temporary structure covered with metal sheets. Dozens of workers, including guest workers, were at the unit during the fire which broke out around 1pm. The workers evacuated the premises before the fire engulfed the entire unit, preventing fatality in the incident. Firefighters with five water tenders put out the blaze around 6pm.
