NH worksite theft: Assam man arrested

T'puram: Mangalapuram police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man from Assam in connection with the theft of construction materials worth around Rs 5 lakh from work sites linked to national highway development project in the district.The accused, identified as Akadul Haq, of Nagaon, Assam, was staying in rented accommodation at Lilly Complex on Attingal Market Road. According to police, the thefts were reported from the work sites of Pune-based R K Chavan Infrastructure Company located at Pallippuram and Thonnakkal. Police said the accused allegedly stole iron cables and other construction materials from the sites. Following a probe, police traced and arrested the suspect. The arrest was carried out under the leadership of SHO Liyasad Mohammed M. The accused was later produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
