Palamu Tiger Reserve is set to observe National Forest Martyrs' Day on September 11 at Betla National Park, honoring forest personnel who sacrificed their lives protecting forests and wildlife. Forest officials from Garhwa, Latehar, and Palamu will gather to pay tribute to these unsung heroes.

Daltonganj: The Palamu Tiger Reserve will host National Forest Martyrs' Day on September 11 for the first time to commemorate forest personnel and officers who died in line of duty.Chief conservator of forest and PTR’s field director S R Natesh said that it will be held on September 11 at Betla National Park."All forest personnel and officials of the three districts of this region: Garhwa, Latehar, and Palamu will converge to pay tributes to those who died in line of duty. They are unsung heroes who gave a supreme sacrifice to save forest and wildlife,” he said.The Forest Martyrs' Day dates back to 1730 when 363 members of the Bishnoi community were massacred at Khejarli protecting the forest and animals. The ministry of forest, environment, and climate change launched this day in 2013. Natesh said a similar programme is expected to be held in Ranchi too.
