MI Cape Town wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton believes compatriot Dewald Brevis will be the most sought-after name in the upcoming SA20 Season 4 auction. The tournament, which has grown rapidly since its inception, has already drawn global attention, with more than 600 players registering for last year’s event. Big international stars like Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Jos Buttler, and Jonny Bairstow are already locked in as pre-signings or retentions. With the auction set for September 9, Rickelton feels Brevis will headline the list of young talents expected to spark bidding wars.
SA20 Auction Live: South Africa’s Dewald Brevis made history at the SA20 Season 4 auction by becoming the league’s most expensive player, sold for a record R16.5 million (approx. Rs 8.3 crore) to Pretoria Capitals. The 22-year-old, holder of South Africa’s highest T20I score, attracted a fierce bidding war after his standout performances for MI Cape Town, where he scored 676 runs in 32 matches with a strike rate over 145. His best season came during MI Cape Town’s title win, smashing 291 runs at 184.17.

Durban’s Super Giants also struck big, landing Aiden Markram for R14 million (approx. Rs 7 crore) after his successful IPL 2025 with Lucknow Super Giants.

Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir, 46, joined Joburg Super Kings for R600,000. However, several notable names went unsold, including Andile Phehlukwayo, Junior Dala, Mustafizur Rahman, Kusal Perera, James Anderson, and Moeen Ali, highlighting the auction’s ruthless competition.
