"Holding everyone close in prayer"- Karl-Anthony Towns offers condolences to former teammate Naz Reid amid family tragedy

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid and his family are currently going through an extremely tough time. After his sister was shot and killed two days ago, his former teammate, Karl-Anthony, took to X to pen down a message for him. Reid played with the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside Karl-Anthony Towns for five years after being a New Jersey basketball star. On the other hand, according to officials, his elder sister Toraya Reid was shot on Saturday outside an apartment building in New Jersey.Due to their shared challenges and victories, NBA players often have a bond that goes far beyond the court. Karl-Anthony Towns and Naz Reid share a bond like this. They were both New Jersey prep basketball standouts who went on to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves for five years.The friendship has particularly been strong between Naz Reid and Karl-Anthony Towns since Reid joined the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019. He often addresses Towns as a mentor and confidence booster throughout practices and games. Now, Towns recently posted his condolences on social media following the devastating news involving Naz Reid's older sister, Toraya Reid. She was shot dead by her boyfriend in Ocean County, New Jersey, on Saturday night.Towns wrote on X on September 8: “Heartbroken. No words can ever take away the pain for my brother. Holding everyone close in prayer today…”For context, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Toraya Reid was shot on Saturday morning at the Paragon Apartment complex in Jackson Township. Officers saw a man when they arrived at the crime scene. They later identified him as 29-year-old Shaquille Green of Jackson Township.Police were called to the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road in Jackson Township at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday after a shooting incident left a lady unconscious. Later, Green was spotted "running on North New Prospect Road" and was taken into custody. He is now being held on suspicion of murder at the moment. The prosecutor’s office said:"A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, identified Green – who has been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid – as the individual responsible for her death.”They also revealed that Green and Toraya Reid were apparently dating.
