Dumka: A 45-year-old man was allegedly shot dead over a long-standing land dispute in Dumka district's Chhota Udali village on Thursday night, police said.
Sitaram Hembrom alias Jalka Hembrom was killed when Jetha Hembrom, a resident of Bada Udali village, allegedly opened fire at his house around 9 pm after demanding liquor and being refused, according to the victim's wife, Meeru Marandi.
Meeru told police that the two families were locked in a dispute over a piece of land, which led the accused to shoot her husband in the head from point blank range before fleeing.
A police team arrived at the scene around 1 am, investigated the scene and sent the body to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
"An FIR has been registered against the absconding accused, with efforts underway to nab him," ASI Asim Kujur said, adding the investigation was underway.
