JUSNL move to curb power cuts in 7 districts
Ranchi: Residents across the Santhal Pargana, Dhanbad and Giridih areas are set to receive consistent power supply following a major infrastructure breakthrough. The Jharkhand Urja Sancharan Nigam Ltd (JUSNL) has energised a single-circuit line-in line-out (LILO) of the 220 kV Govindpur-Dumka transmission line at the NKTL grid substation in Dhanbad. The commissioning is expected to provide substantial relief from power cuts in several districts, as the state is now equipped to receive up to 450 MW of power from the North Karanpura Transmission Ltd (NKTL). At present, Dumka region draws around 103 MW through the link, while the Govindpur grid substation gets nearly 80 MW. KK Verma, managing director of JUSNL, said, "As the line achieves full operational capacity, the connectivity will significantly boost network stability, particularly during peak summer months when demand surges." He added that the line will act as a reliable source of quality electricity for Santhal Pargana, Giridih and Dhanbad, effectively resolving long-standing low voltage issues. The project will benefit the districts of Dumka, Sahibganj, Pakur, Deoghar, Giridih, Dhanbad and Bokaro. A more stable and uninterrupted supply is now guaranteed for numerous grid substations, including those in Govindpur, Chandankiyari, Jainamore, Dumka, Maharo, Pakur, Sahibganj, Lalmatia, Amrapada, Jasidih, Giridih, Deoghar, Barhait and Saraiya.
For consumers in Dumka, Dhanbad and Bokaro, the development promises significant relief from frequent loadshedding and power crises. Also, the Santhal Pargana region will benefit from enhanced redundancy. Previously, the 400/220 kV Maithon (PG) was the primary source via the 220 kV Maithon (PG)-Dumka D/C line. The overloading of this line has been resolved through integration with the NKTL substation in Dhanbad. The integration of the Dhanbad substation has already addressed overloading issues on existing lines. The move is also expected to decrease the state's reliance on the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) within Giridih and Dhanbad areas.
