Fisherman Drowns in Garhwa Pond While Retrieving Net
Garhwa: A 32-year-old fisherman allegedly drowned while trying to retrieve his fishing net from a pond in Garhwa district’s Jhumelwa village on Saturday, police said on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Suresh Singh.Police said that Singh had cast his net in the pond to catch fish when it got stuck in something in the deep waters. He then dived into the pond in an attempt to pull the net out. During his efforts, he also became entangled in the net and drowned before he could return to the surface.Villagers alerted local authorities soon after learning that Singh had not emerged from the water. Police reached the spot and began an inquiry. Local divers launched a rescue operation but had failed to fish out the body.Officer in-charge of Ranka police station, Ravi Keshri, said, “Further investigation is underway.”“Deputy commissioner Ananya Mittal has been informed about bringing an NDRF team from Ranchi for the rescue operation,” said DSP Rohit Ranjan Singh.
