Motihari: The 47 battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) deployed near the Indian checkpost at Raxaul on Sunday arrested a Chinese national while he was allegedly attempting to enter India illegally via the Maitri bridge. The action was taken during a routine checking drive.
During preliminary interrogation by immigration officers, the Chinese national was identified as Yao Shuzhang, 57. He said he is a toy trader by profession. A consignment of allegedly offensive toys, including fighter planes and Spiderman masks, was also recovered from his possession. He did not have a visa to enter India.
He stated that after arriving in Nepal from China, he entered Nepal’s Chitwan region on May 11, 2026 for business purposes and later attempted to enter India via the Raxaul border from Birgunj in Nepal. He spoke only in Chinese, making interrogation difficult. A Chinese passport bearing number EJO138408 was recovered from his possession. No valid visa documents pertaining to entry into India were produced during the investigation, immigration officers said.
SSB officials are treating the matter seriously and are investigating his purpose of visit, contacts and possible activities in India. Raxaul sub-divisional police officer Manish Anand confirmed the arrest and said legal action has been taken as per rules, and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
Security agencies deployed at the border have taken the matter seriously as incidents of illegal entry of foreign nationals have been reported earlier in the Raxaul border area. In the last 17 months, 18 foreign nationals have been arrested at the Raxaul border while attempting to enter Bihar without valid documents, and they are currently lodged in jails.
