Nagpur: MahaMetro has deployed 15 launching girders across the under-construction Phase-II expansion of
Nagpur Metro, with officials claiming it could be the highest number of launchers deployed for a metro project of comparable length anywhere in India.
The latest milestone came with the commissioning of the fifth launching girder in the Khapri–Butibori section (Reach-1A), aimed at accelerating viaduct construction work on the corridor.
Launching operations of segmental box girders are considered among the most critical engineering activities in metro rail construction, as they enable the erection of elevated viaduct spans at a faster pace. Officials said timely deployment of multiple launchers is crucial to maintaining construction schedules for large-scale metro projects.
A senior MahaMetro official said simultaneous deployment of multiple launchers is helping speed up superstructure work and reduce execution timelines. "This may be the highest number of launchers deployed in a metro project of this scale and length in India," the official said.
