Amravati: A 33-year-old farmer from Shendurjana Ghat, allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison due to distress caused by mounting debt and crop failure. The incident took place at Shendurjana Ghat town on Saturday. Akshay Patil is the name of the deceased farmer.
According to information, Akshay Patil owned agricultural land at Satnur and used to maintain livelihood of his family through farming activities. On Saturday, Patil reportedly left his house and allegedly consumed poison before returning home. When his health condition started deteriorating, family members questioned him, following which he told them that he had consumed poison. His relatives immediately rushed him to Rural Hospital at Warud for treatment. However, considering his critical condition, doctors referred him to the District General Hospital for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, he succumbed on the way to the hospital.
Officials from Warud Police carried out the panchnama and later transferred the case to Shendurjana Ghat police station for further investigation. Family members stated that Patil was under severe mental stress due to crop failure and debt loans. He is survived by his mother, wife, and brother.
