Akola: The Akola police have solved a sensational daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop within 72 hours, arresting the accused and recovering stolen valuables worth ₹25.91 lakh along with the weapon used in the crime.
The incident occurred on May 7 afternoon at Shri Saptashrungi Alankar Kendra when an unidentified individual entered the shop. Threatening employees with a gun, he looted gold and silver ornaments along with cash, amounting to a total of ₹69.90 lakh.
A case was registered at Khadan police station. A special investigation team was formed under the guidance of SP Archit Chandak. The team, led by sub-divisional police officer Sudarshan Patil and local crime branch Inspector Shankar Shelke, comprised seven officers sand more than 50 personnel.
Through technical analysis and intelligence inputs, the accused was identified as Rohansingh Satnamsingh Bawra, a resident of Bhusawal in Jalgaon district. Police teams tracked the accused and arrested him in Bhusawal. During interrogation, he confessed to having stayed in a rented room in Akola and conducting recce of the area under the pretext of selling bedsheets before executing the robbery.
The police recovered approximately 160 grams of gold ornaments valued at ₹24 lakh, 440 grams of silver ornaments valued at ₹1.23 lakh, and a locally made firearm used in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property.
