Tension in Kodagu district over religious conversion
Madikeri: Tension prevailed in Herur over religious conversion where a building was constructed in a tribal colony to preach Christianity to the villagers.
Following a dispute over the opening of the building, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. According to the villagers, some people from Tamil Nadu tried to inaugurate the building where they planned to teach Christianity. When the people from TN proceeded to inaugurate it, villagers led by former Nakur Shirangala gram panchayat president Mandodi Jagannath filed a complaint with Suntikoppa police station.
Kushalnagar circle inspector Dinesh Kumar and Suntikoppa PSI Mohanraj rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Nakur Shirangala gram panchayat administrative officer Srikanth and panchayat development officer Asma inspected the site.
Nakur Shirangala gram panchayat chief Jagannath charged that this was a case of religious conversion and asked the social welfare department officials to initiate action. He said that they thought that a house was being built at the spot, but it was used to promote Christianity.
