Madikeri: Karnataka State Decentralization Planning and Development Committee vice-chairman DR Patil held a meeting with the district and local authorities in the presence of Kodagu district minister NS Boseraju. The meeting highlighted the need for a systemic functioning of the local and district bodies to extend decentralised governance.
Patil said the participation of the people was essential for implementing development projects. He shared that the gram panchayats have more power under the govt and urged for its proper utilization. He ordered the people concerned to form a ‘Nere Hore' committee in every ward of the city and town municipalities by June 15 to ensure people participation for a decentralised governance. He opined that the govt has extended special powers to the local bodies to enable decentralised governance in rural and urban regions. He urged the authorities to inform all voters about the development schemes under the panchayat and enable an action plan according to the needs of the people. He opined that a decentralised administrative system will ensure women empowerment.
Boseraju said the govt aims to promote a systemic development scheme and urged for the scientific implementation of projects.
Madikeri City Municipal Council member Arun Shetty urged for the filling of over 70% vacant posts in the council. He also urged for the fast-paced completion of the ongoing road works. Kodagu DC SJ Somashekar, SP Bindu Mani and other officials were present.
