TISS to launch global social science research body
Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) be launching a Global Social Science Research Body, which will be aimed at strengthening international collaboration, interdisciplinary research and global south knowledge partnerships in the field of social sciences. The announcement will come as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations. The institute will also announce three new international dual degrees programmes in partnership with University of Leeds, University College London, and University of Canterbury, expanding its global portfolio.TISS vice-chancellor Prof Badri Narayan Tiwari said the institute envisions becoming a key anchor for social science research by promoting cross-border academic partnerships, interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and policy-oriented engagement among scholars, practitioners, and institutions across the Global South and beyond.The announcements will be made during the Global Colloquium the institute is hosting on ‘Building Bridges in Social Sciences' from May 11 to 13 at the institute's campus in Deonar. The event will bring together scholars, policymakers, diplomats, civil society representatives, and practitioners from around the world. The inaugural session on May 11 will be attended by union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The colloquium aims to encourage dialogue, collaboration, and critical reflection within the social sciences, while placing India's development experience at the centre of global knowledge exchange.Themes such as governance and public policy, sustainability and climate resilience, social transformation, public health systems, migration and urbanisation, and the relationship between technology and society in an increasingly digital world, will be discussed during the Colloquium.
