Heavy rain lashes Nellai, Tenkasi districts
Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli district recorded heavy rainfall across various parts over the past 24 hours, with inflow beginning to increase slightly in the hilly areas and dam catchment regions.The overall average rainfall in Tirunelveli district stood at 20.64mm. The highest rainfall was recorded at Oothu, where 65mm was reported. Moolaikaraipatti recorded 60mm and Nalumukku 58mm rainfall.Papanasam dam, with a capacity of 143 feet, stood at 43.65 feet, with 26.85 cusecs flowing in and 100 cusecs being discharged. Servalar dam, with a capacity of 156 feet, stood at 57.09 feet. Manimuthar dam, with a capacity of 118 feet, stood at 76.08 feet, with inflow at 58.81 cusecs. From Manimuthar dam, 45 cusecs was discharged through the Perungal canal and 300 cusecs through the river.The highest rainfall recorded in Tenkasi district as of Thursday was in Sengottai, with 84mm of rainfall. Karuppanadi recorded 46mm and Tenkasi 31.5mm. The lowest was in Sivagiri, with only 2mm.The widespread rainfall across the district is expected to reduce summer heat and help raise groundwater levels.
