Two drown in abandoned quarry near Sattur

Virudhunagar: A 17-year-old teen and a 20-year-old man are believed to be drowned in an abandoned stone quarry filled with rainwater near Elayirampannai in Virudhunagar district on Wednesday. A search is on to find the bodies.Police said Sanjay, from Thiruthangal, and Sivanraj, from Ala Oorani are daily wage workers. The duo visited their friend's house at Vellaipuram village near Elayirampannai to celebrate a local festival.In the afternoon, a group of friends went to a stone quarry on the Sattur-Elayirampannai Road at Keelachellaiahpuram to bathe. Unaware of the depth of the quarry pit, Sanjay and Sivanraj stepped into the water and were unable to stay afloat. Their friends immediately alerted officials. Subsequently, fire and rescue services personnel from Elayirampannai and Sattur stations rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.The Elayirampannai police registered a case.
