Ludhiana: Security footage has allowed police to identify the masked robbers who had injured a jewellery store customer critically in Jagraon on Thursday evening before fleeing with valuables worth ₹3.5 lakh.
The heist at New Kanda Jewellers on Kacha Malak Road lasted just 90 seconds. CCTV footage captured three men entering the shop, one brandishing a sword and another carrying what police suspect may have been a toy pistol.
When a customer inside the shop attempted to resist, one of the assailants struck him with the sword, causing him severe head-and-body injuries. The customer collapsed inside the shop and remains in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
The robbers then jumped the counter, looting cash alongside gold and silver ornaments — including an estimated 1-kg silver jewellery. Ludhiana Rural senior superintendent of police Ankur Gupta confirmed that multiple raids were on for the suspects, who were believed to be from a neighbouring district.
“We have identified the accused, and arrests are imminent,” Gupta said, declining to release names to protect the ongoing investigation.
In the wake of the robbery that has led to a murder attempt, the district police have intensified checkpoint inspections and increased patrols across the commercial centres.
