Kolkata: Actor and former Trinamool MLA
Soham Chakraborty was on Friday booked in a fresh fraud case after a complaint was lodged at Charu Market Police Station, alleging he and his production company cheated an investor of Rs 1 crore in connection with a 2023 film that starred him and Jadavpur MP
Saayoni Ghosh.
The case was registered following a complaint by Kaushik Karmakar, who claimed Soham and his company convinced his firm to invest in a 2023 film, 'Laal Suitcaseta Dekhechhen?', saying additional funds were required to complete the project. Police said the FIR included charges of cheating and related offences.
According to the complaint, representatives of Soham’s company approached Karmakar’s firm in mid-2022, introducing themselves as producers involved in films and web series and highlighting Soham’s stature as an actor. The complainant alleged the company said it lacked sufficient capital to complete the project and sought an investment of Rs 80 lakh. Karmakar claimed his firm was initially reluctant to invest but Soham visited the office and persuaded them to fund the project. The firm invested Rs 80 lakh.
Karmakar alleged that despite receiving the funds, the production was not completed and Soham’s company later sought an additional Rs 25 lakh, which was also paid.
No response was received from Soham.
The latest FIR came days after another cheating complaint was lodged against Soham at Balurghat PS by film producer Tarun Das, who alleged the actor accepted an advance payment of Rs 15 lakh to play the lead in a film but failed to report for shooting. Das alleged Soham threatened him when he sought a refund of the money. Soham had denied the allegation and accused Das of threatening him.
