Kottayam: A retired bank employee alleged that he was beaten and abused by a sub-inspector at Adoor police station on May 27. Thengamom native, V Babu, 62, claimed that justice was not delivered despite the complaints given to higher authorities, including the chief minister. Babu is a state committee member of Kerala Sambavar Society and the treasurer of Adoor taluk unit of the organisation.
The complaint is against the former SI of Adoor station,
Anoop Chandran. The officer was transferred following the allegation in June.
Babu lent Rs 20,000 to a member of the society and when the amount was not returned and a dispute arose between them. The woman who borrowed the money filed a case at Adoor police station.
Babu was abused and allegedly beaten up after he was summoned to the station in connection with the case. In the complaint given to the CM and DGP, it is stated that although Babu's wife repeatedly said that her husband was sick and should not be beaten up, no one listened.
Following the complaint, Kerala Sambavar Society took out a march to Adoor police station on June 7. Although Chandran was transferred, no further action was taken against him. Babu also alleged that higher police officials approached him to withdraw the complaint.
Meanwhile, a senior police official said there were CCTV camera visuals of the SI speaking angrily at Babu. However, he said no physical assault or casteist slur being used against Babu, was seen in the visuals.
