Idukki: A technical fault at a substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) in Kozhikode is expected to cause partial power disruptions in four northern Kerala districts in the coming days.
The power restrictions will affect Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod till May 18. The fault was detected in the 220kV bushing of the third transformer with a capacity of 500MVA at the Kozhikode 400kV substation.
According to PGCIL officials, the transformer needs to be shut down urgently to carry out repair works. It may take around a week to complete the maintenance and restore the transformer to full operational capacity, officials added.
Due to the reduced power availability, partial power control measures are being imposed in the northern districts to manage electricity distribution. KSEB officials have urged the consumers to cooperate with the situation and avoid unnecessary electricity consumption.
