Thrissur: Police on Saturday arrested an acupuncturist in connection with his wife's death following complications developed after childbirth at their house at Edakkazhiyur near Chavakkad. The woman's family complained that he had denied her medical treatment.Kalluvalappil Ibrahim (43) was arrested over the death of Muhsina (37). Chavakkad SHO Rajeev N S took the accused into custody and registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against him.The forensic team led by police surgeon Dr T S Hitesh Shankar, who conducted Muhsina's postmortem examination, reportedly informed police that the cause of her death was an infection caused by not providing adequate treatment during pregnancy and after delivery.Muhsina died on Thursday, after her seventh delivery on Jan 10. The baby also died within four days of birth. Two of their children had died earlier.Social activist Palakkal Hamsath Muhammed, a native of Puthuponnani, had filed a complaint with Chavakkad police, alleging that the baby died without receiving treatment. Muhsina died at the medical college hospital after suffering from septicaemia, triggered by an infection following the delivery.
