Kerala man hacks wife to death with machete over infidelity; later found hanging

KOCHI: A 60-year-old woman was hacked to death by her husband at their house in Marampally in the early hours of Friday. The accused, Chandran Sankunni (63) was later found dead, hanging from the branch of a tree.

The deceased has been identified as Ambika of Manjapetty, Marampally. Her son, Sanal Chandran (38), was also attacked by her husband.

As per the FIR, Chandran was irked by his wife’s objection to his infidelity.

Around 5am on Friday, the accused hacked his wife using a machete on her head and face. Sanal tried to intervene when the accused shouted at him that he wo-uld kill both the mother and son. He sustained a cut to his cheek when Chandran swung the machete at him.city

Chandran repeatedly hacked Sanal, who sustained multiple injuries, including on his neck and chest, in the brutal attack. When Sanal ran away to escape the attack, Chandran hacked him again on the back of his head. Later Sanal saw Chandran repeatedly hacking Ambika, leading to her death.

Chandran was later found dead, hanging from a tree branch in their house compound. Police said Sanal’s condition was stable. Perumbavoor police registered an FIR and began a probe.
