Man shoots at woman after molesting her, later attempts suicide

Kanpur: A 56-year-old man shot at a woman with an illegal country-made pistol after molesting her on Wednesday morning in Hamirpur. He later tried to hang himself inside the victim's house but police thwarted his attempt and took him into custody.The incident took place in the Dhundh Pur village under the Bharua Sumerpur police station area in Hamirpur district. According to police, the woman, aged 37, alleged that the accused, a fellow village resident, began molesting her when she was cleaning the cattle shed around 5.30am in the morning. She alleged that when she resisted, he fired at her with the bullet passing through her left shoulder.She said the accused then began reloading the pistol, upon which she pinned him down. Hearing the gunshot, her family members arrived at the spot and overpowered the accused.Fearing a beating by the villagers, the accused locked himself inside a room of the victim’s house from within and attempted to hang himself, but police arrived at the scene in time, broke down the door and took him into custody along with the pistol.CO Sadar, Rajesh Kamal, said that the accused has been arrested. and An investigation into the matter is underway.
