Over 5 lakh cases settled in Rajasthan’s Lok Adalat drive
Jaipur: From cheque bounce disputes and bank recovery cases to matrimonial conflicts, motor accident claims and electricity bill matters, a total of 5,49,911 pending matters were settled in district and revenue courts across the state through Lok Adalat proceedings Saturday.
Out of these, 2,93,740 cases were settled in the High Court and district courts, with awards amounting to nearly ₹715 crore passed in favour of litigants.
The statewide exercise was organised under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and coordinated by Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority across courts and tribunals in the state.
The formal inauguration was held at the new building of the Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur, where Acting Chief Justice and RSLSA executive chairman Sanjeev Prakash Sharma inaugurated the proceedings.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma stressed the growing importance of Lok Adalats, mediation, and pre-litigation settlement mechanisms in making the justice delivery system faster, more accessible, and affordable. “Settlement of minor disputes outside courts through mutual consent could substantially reduce pendency in courts and encourage harmonious dispute resolution,” he said.
The drive saw significant disposal of pre-litigation disputes related to banking, finance, and insurance services, preventing many matters from reaching courts.
