A 47-year-old TVK worker, identified as Isakkiyappan, allegedly attempted self-immolation in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli after expressing frustration over the prolonged wait to see actor-politician Vijay become the Chief Minister. He sustained severe burn injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment. Earlier, he had publicly pierced both cheeks with a 16-foot lance to show support for Vijay. The incident comes amid intense political activity as TVK attempts to form the government after winning 108 seats in the Assembly elections, falling short of the majority mark by 10 seats. The party has secured support from Congress and some Left allies originally aligned with the DMK, while uncertainty remains over VCK’s position. Vijay has also met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar multiple times to stake claim to form the government.
