Docs hold rally in Jaipur, services in pvt hosps remain shut

Jaipur: A rally by doctors, hospital staff, and their family members was organised in Jaipur from Jaipur Medical Association building to Trimurti Circle. The doctors are demanding justice for Dr Somdev Bansal, attached to a private hospital in Mansarovar, was arrested by police on April 12 for allegedly submitting forged and fabricated documents under the Rajasthan Govt Health Scheme. The case was registered at Mansarovar police station on Sept 29, 2025, on a complaint by Jitendra Kumar Sharma, whose mother had been admitted to the hospital.

The rally was taken out amid an indefinite shutdown of OPD, IPD, and emergency services by private hospitals in Jaipur that began Friday, causing major hardship for patients across the city. Routine consultations, follow-up care, diagnostic guidance, and treatment for chronic illnesses were severely disrupted as medical services remained suspended at nearly all private hospitals.

The strike was called by private medical institutions following alleged misconduct with the family of Dr Somdev Bansal during proceedings at the Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur Bench, on Thursday. Doctors alleged that during the hearing on Dr Bansal’s bail plea, a group created noise, raised slogans, and disrupted court proceedings, preventing the hearing from continuing. The matter was adjourned to May 11, said a IMA official of Jaipur branch.

The rally saw large-scale participation from medical professionals, hospital employees, and their families, sending a strong message of unity and solidarity.
