World Cup winners, WPL players to headline MPL women’s season from June 4
Indore: City’s cricket fans will get a chance to watch several recognised names from women’s cricket up close as World Cup winners, WPL players and emerging India prospects gear up for the second edition of women’s Madhya Pradesh League beginning June 4.
The tournament will feature five teams and 10 league matches, with all fixtures scheduled at Daly College Cricket Ground before the eliminator and final shift to Holkar Stadium on June 12 and 13.
The opening clash itself promises plenty of attraction as Chambal Ghariyals take on Gwalior Shernis from 10 am on June 4. Fans will get to watch India international and WPL player Pooja Vastrakar in action for Chambal alongside Rahila Firdous, one of the picks from the WPL 2026 season. The match is expected to be among the major attractions of the opening day with several national-level players set to feature.
Gwalior Shernis, meanwhile, will feature Women’s World Cup winner Kranti Gaud, Under-19 World Cup champion Soumya Tiwari and experienced domestic player Nuzhat Parveen. Rising spinner Vaishnavi Sharma will headline Royal Nimar Eagles, while recently selected India player Anushka Sharma is set to play for Bundelkhand Bulls.
The five participating teams this season are Bundelkhand Bulls, Chambal Ghariyals, Bhopal Wolves with two latest additions Royal Nimar Eagles and Gwalior Shernis. According to the schedule released on Friday, teams will play league matches till June 11, after which the top sides will qualify for the knockout stage. The eliminator has been scheduled at Holkar Stadium on June 12 at 7.30 pm, while the final will be played under lights on June 13.
The women’s edition of the MPL was introduced only last year as part of efforts to strengthen the women’s cricket structure in Madhya Pradesh. Organisers believe the presence of WPL players and India prospects will further boost the tournament’s profile while also giving local fans an opportunity to watch established and emerging women cricketers live in Indore.
