Indore: Two trucks transporting timber worth lakhs of rupees illegally were seized by the police during a late-night operation in Dewas. The wood was being smuggled from Shajapur to Indore.
“A patrolling team received a tip-off at approximately 2 am regarding the illegal transport. The police setup a barricade near Nayra petrol pump and stopped two trucks,” SP Punit Gehlod said on Tuesday.
Both vehicles were found to be loaded with timber. When officers asked for transport permits and documentation, the drivers were unable to produce any.
The police seized the vehicles and alerted forest department. Deputy Ranger Hemraj Gokhlekar, along with forest guards Manoj Mandloi and Dinesh Choudhary, arrived at the scene to take custody of the evidence.
The two drivers, Luvkush, a resident of Bhanwra (Sehore district), and Prem Malviya, a resident of Piploda (Shajapur district), were arrested. The duo and the confiscated timber were handed over to the forest department for further legal action under the Forest Act.
