Indore: The number of people who suffered food poisoning in Turkiya village of Mandsaur district increased to 79 by Monday morning.
The people had fallen ill after consuming a meal at a child’s tonsure (
mundan) ceremony on Sunday. While initial reports on Sunday estimated 30 to 35 cases, the count rose significantly overnight.
Mandsaur CMHO Govind Singh Chauhan told TOI that four patients were referred to Mandsaur district hospital, while others received treatment at Pipaliya Mandi and various local facilities.
“All hospitalised patients were discharged by Monday evening following their recovery,” he said, adding that samples of mawa laddu consumed by the victims have been sent for laboratory test.
Deputy chief minister Jagdish Devda has directed the district administration to ensure all necessary medical arrangements were in place. Health department teams remain stationed in Turkiya village to monitor the residents as a precautionary measure.
