30K sites to be renovated for water conservation ahead of rains
Indore: Over30,000 urban and rural sites will be renovated under Jal Ganga Samvardhan campaign in Indore to enhance water conservation before monsoon.The campaign has evolved into a significant public movement aimed at restoring traditional water bodies through robust community and corporate collaboration. Collector Shivam Verma said that various organisations had committed resources for the 2026-27 period.Several banks and non-govt organisations have taken responsibility of cleaning, renovation and restoration of wells and stepwells. They have also came forward to assist in afforestation and rainwater harvesting, Verma said.The campaign’s 2026-27 goals include 5000 rural and 25,000 urban projects, such as renovation of old wells, ponds and stop dams.Collector Verma has mandated that all tasks be completed before the monsoon, specifically construction of rainwater harvesting systems in all govt buildings and homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Additionally, women will be integrated into pond management through Livelihood Mission user groups to promote local economic activity.
