Hyderabad: Following his arrest in a Pocso case registered at Petbasheerabad police station, Bandi Bageerath, the son of Union minister of state for home affairs, approached the high court seeking permission to withdraw his interim anticipatory bail petition, which was pending before the court. In view of the hearing scheduled for May 21, Bageerath’s counsel, N Naveen Kumar, submitted a letter to the high court registry seeking permission to withdraw the petition. Accordingly, the anticipatory bail petition was listed under the withdrawal category before Justice T Madhavi Devi’s bench.Justice T Madhavi Devi, who heard the petition at length on May 14 and 15, declined to grant any interim protection to Bageerath and posted the matter to May 21 for orders. During the previous hearing, public prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao submitted the girl’s statement before the judge.Taking note of the statement, the judge refused to grant immediate protection from arrest, following which Bageerath was arrested on May 16 and sent to judicial remand. As a result, the anticipatory bail petition became infructuous. When the matter comes up for hearing on May 21, the judge is expected to pass orders on the withdrawal petition.
